Well it seems that DC has made some good progress the last few weeks on the card game. In fact, it is about 90% done.
So here's a sneak preview from Gladius:
GC Card Game
Essentially there are two players facing off on a 3x3 game board. Each person has a deck (40+ cards is average) to use. Right now there are 98 cards but the basic deck will have several copies of some of the basic cards. Basically each person has 20 hp and 4 mp to start the game. The first person plays a card in any one of the squares. The 2nd person then plays one of their cards. Essentially, when opposing cards are touching each other, the numbers touching (each card has 4 numbers, one on each edge. Numbers range from 1 to 6) are compared. The higher number wins, and the difference is subtracted from the lower card's owner's Hp. Obviously, the first person to run out of HP loses.
The trick of the game is to master the art of balancing MP usage. MP is what you use to summon cards, which have a lvl from 0 to 4. You gain 1 mp at the start of your turn. When you play a card, you must pay the MP cost that corresponds with the level (pay 4 MP to play lvl 4 card, pay 0 mp to play lvl 0 card, etc.). Do you want to start slow and play lower MP cards and save your better ones to pound your opponent later? Or do you want to play the bigs first and do some damage early? Finding the balance and keeping some MP around is the key to the game.
The overview: the game is a strategic, numerical game. The classicians who love action, fast paced games/events will be dissapointed. But the people who asked for more tactical events will be pleased. Clearly the game is not yet finished and has a few bugs to iron out. But the game shows promise and the fact that not all cards are available to the everyone might drive some people for the rarer card competitions.
If anyone has some questions or comments, feel free to post them below.
Overall, Glad gives the card game a 7 out of 10.
