I dunno about the north of England but each school I've been to has mentioned BHM, but it was during an assembly and mentioned again in my History classes. I remember in year 8 (grade 9 in the U.S) we learned about this guy called Kunta Kente, he was African and had to be a slave for the British or something... Us being boys however, we took the whole thing as a joke and started calling the black som aliens in my class Kunta Kente. Ah memories...

We didn't do black history but we did do american history, people like martin luther king were covered in that. Why can't it just be a part of american history instead of dedicating an entire month to a specific race? o.o

Perfect time to mention that American History X was a brilliant film btw. Also Xaphan, I think it's because the black people want to be different from others, but then again - they've always mentioned how racism is wrong, everyone is equal, it's not about the colour of your skin but the inside you... Yet they can't see that Black History Month celebrates 1 particular race?!

Just seems quite irrelevant now, that's all. Unless the USA and the UK want to create another generation of apologists.

Xaphan, our history classes do have black history sprinkled throughout. But the gov decided to name feb (the shortest month) in their honor I guess. It's more "look we honor you guys and such so forgive us for what happened" than to actually educate the people. At least from what I've seen.

It's because a specific race of people struggled so hard for decades to get their civil rights in a segregated area. I don't think they should get that much credentials, but i don't call the shots here.
