I never wanted respect. Sure it's cool to get it but I cared much more about the effects being a good GC had on the server than anything, and I was a perfectionist about being a good GC.
It sucked cause most of you guys seemed to be like "woohoo we're rockstars, lets continue rocking the crowd cause that's all that matters!!". We were getting creamed by UN in playercount and it seemed no one cared about event variety. It felt like everyone was a pure action GC when originally I was the only one. The other styles got killed off and their fanbases left aswell. I tried to get everyone on track but there was no chemistry within the team like I had when Mighty, Espresso, Aeris, Tim, Bubbles, or Trip where in business. The constant drama that never failed to startup was also a big issue. I did try hard to keep things rolling with the Xia levels and new NPCWs though not until just now do I understand how futile my efforts were.
UN's playercount had always 'creamed' classics. There is clearly no debate there, but also clearly not a result of the GC team not performing to your 'standards'.
And again you are referring to glory days with GC's who had a larger and much more undiluted playercount to cater to. Everybody knows classic and graal itself was a much more popular entity in 05-07 than 08-09. Why? It has to do with graal management. Even management plans for Classic were hurting us because events CANNOT be the driving force of the server. The GC team took a downfall because we had less players interested in the server. The players who stuck around only did so because they enjoyed certain aspects such as CTF. That isn't to say that overhosting CTF was justified, although CTF wasn't overhosted to begin with. I believe that on average CTF was hosted 2-3 times in a day, which in the larger grand scheme of things isn't overhosted. Therefore, your point there is moot. And to say the other GC's did nothing to introduce diversity is insulting. I tried my hardest to introduce original events; so did gladius; so did gemini; so did death. Truth is, we had less interest in the unique events than the events that are hosted on a basis like pit, ctf, or sumo. And if you paid attention, you would have noticed we did this until the very end, but we ultimately have to cater to what the public will play most of the time.
I've seen "generations" of GCs come and go. I've also seen plenty of GCs start off fresh, easily capable of getting over 400 minutes per week, and then eventually burn out when they've been GC for a long time before ultimately quitting. I've come to understand that it's natural and will happen to everyone eventually. But I didn't want to believe I had burned out when I did so I didn't quit.
So you're admitting you burned out yet saying you are the best GC? When has anyone in history given up and said they were the best? Did Michael Jordan give up on a game? Did Ali give up on a fight? I don't understand. You just set yourself up for a downfall here.
It's dumb, cause I remember getting the "WTF YOU NEVER HOST" bs and I knew they didn't understand since the concept was so hard for me to grasp at one point. The thing is I put alot of work into GC for alot longer than most GCs and then when I finally do burn out I stick around and try to make things better for the team, only for the fresh GCs of the time to pop up and say "**** you, you don't host". Alright fine whatever, keep "rocking the crowd cause that's all that matters". Keep thinking 15 CTFs will do more for the server than a couple of well placed events. Apparently you all ended up quitting aswell, so you got to see first hand how great your ideas were.
As a senior GC, you need to set an example. Quite frankly, saying you burned out is pitiful. You should have quit instead of made yourself look like an ass. If you didn't care, you shouldn't have been there because the other GC's on the team cared and tried to do their best, while you poo on their efforts. YET you are saying you are the best GC.
This is hilarious. Truly hilarious.
