UDP?

Can someone explain to me, wtf is this UDP thing on the options tab on F3 because...
A few moments ago, I sparred Cody for the Singles title and I couldn't even hit him... after the event was over (he won ofcourse), someone told me I should disable UDP because that was why Cody couldn't get hit...
I do so and I PK Cody on the overworld, and oddly enough - he gets owned 4 times in a row. Do you guys think it's fair that I just sparred Cody with little to no chance of winning because even if I hit his image, there could be no damage done?
I'm just confused about the whole UDP thing, if someone can clear wtf this is and why I don't see some people move if I have it disabled and can't hit some people if I have it enabled... that would be muchly appreciated.

Thor posted a novel about it in another thread.
I'll try to find it...

It's a protocol, you dippoos. It's a protocol that is used to send data quickly without checking if it's malformed or errored.
That's why you can't use microphones without UDP

The reason why you can hit people from several tiles away is simply because of UDP. It's not necessarily a cheat or an advantage/disadvantage, it doesn't alter the HD at all either, it's simply meant for the default clientside HD where you take a hit by someone slashing your position on your own client. To hit somebody with Classic HD, you have to slash where the server sees them, if you lag yourself you might have to slash ahead of time, and if your opponent has UDP enabled, they might be drawn a couple tiles ahead or behind where the server sees them, so even if you don't lag, it can be no good slashing where you see them. Storm doesn't really pay any attention to this issue.

Ahaaah... now that makes sense. No wonder I was hitting his image yet nothing was happening... I think it's a load of bollocks and whichever is the best one should be static for everyone. Players shouldn't be allowed to alter this because imo it gives them an advantage cuz the other person can't hit them.

Shouldn't classic just have a chosen setting everyone has to oblige with before they can log on?

I don't think it's possible to force UDP to be disabled in options and i don't like the idea of hindering gameplay while it is on, new Graal players have UDP on by default i believe and they wouldn't have a clue what to do about it. I've thought about banning players from Sparring while it is on, though i think that simply making a clientside HD would be a better solution, which i should get around to eventually.

Are you still upset that Graal University rejected your Doctoral Thesis for your Ph.D in CTF?
