I've been working on this project for a day and I think I got it right. First off I'm glad that most of the scripts of GS1 worked, but it was still a learning process in order to get to where I've gotten the event.
Battlegrounds 2 Beta is called "beta" for a reason, even though it's not 100% battlegrounds 2 I did manage to make a fun game without the final elements it was supposed to have.
The concept is basic, there's four different teams (at most) and you want your team to be the last standing by killing off all your enemies. But it's not very simple as far as gameplay. This game takes place on one level with a bases at each corner, and each team gets one of the bases. When the game starts you are inside your base, and when a person on your team says "open" it opens the gates to your base, and "close" closes the gates to your base. The fact that anyone on your team can open and close bases can lead to problems, like if someone gets mad at their team they can leave the gate open and greet their opponents with an easy win, or if someone forgets to close the gate the bad guys can storm the base. Even so I don't think it'll get that bad, and if it does occur it's a neccessary evil.
In every base are three items, ammo for the bow, ammo for bombs, and a healer. To refill ammo or heal yourself you must slash these items, but these items have hearts (one slash takes one heart). At the beginning of the game the hearts are at 5, and they gain 5 more hearts every half minute (30 seconds), for the ammo one heart gives you 5 darts or bombs, with hearts one heart give you... one heart, and you can go past your maximum of hearts, so you could get like 14 hearts or even the actual maximum of 20. You can also get above 99 darts and bombs which is actually pretty sweet.
The problem with this item system starts with the "trying to refill" process, sometimes you'll slash at the item only to find out you're not hitting it, you'll sit in one spot slashing for like 5 seconds and then suddenly you're hitting the item refiller, which sorta ruins the try to heal as you're in the middle of a fight idea, it's worth a try just know that it doesn't always work. The second problem is with overgoing your maximum hearts, darts, and bombs. You may already know this but if you have say 20 hearts and you're running around, you could accidently grab a normal heart recovery item from a bush and you'll drop back down to your original maximum which can get frustrating, the same goes for bombs and darts.
With all that said I'll move on to the gate system. As said before you can open and close the gates in your base by saying "open" or "close". There are two paths leading in and out of your base, one leading up or down which are guarded by vertical gates, and another leading left or right which are guarded by horizontal gates. Each gate has 50 hearts, and each slash takes one heart off. Once the gate gets 0 hearts it is destroyed. There is no way to raise the hearts of a gate or bring it back once it's destroyed, so once it's gone... it's gone. Each base has three horizontal gates, and two vertical gates, and you cannot progress into a base until all of the gates on one side have been taken out. Strategically, you'd want to take out the vertical gates first cause it's much quicker, later go after the horizontal gates to gain the advantage of both gates being open.
Although it's very cool to have a "guildhouse" like base to protect this system is flawed. First off the gates ARE NOT immune to friendly fire, meaning you can destroy your own gates if you wanted. Although I could easily fix this... I'm lazy! The second problem is that there's no real reason to knock down your opponents' gates, in the actual Battlegrounds 2 there'll be kings in each base to protect and if they die you'll lose much like the original Battlegrounds, but the kings are not in yet meaning destroying the gates goes from crucially important to just a side thing that helps you win. Don't get me wrong, destroying gates is still important, but it's not what it used to be or could be.
Overall the game is pretty fun, even with it as a beta there's plenty of things you can do, have a 4 teams free for all, or two teams ally against another two teams. But there are currently a couple of glitches, arrows don't hurt players, and the bases are kinda small. The final thing to keep in mind is that everything is pretty much legal in this game from beers to dropping a heart on an 20 hearted foe, fair warnings.
Edit:Minors changes are, as far as slashing the ammo refillers and healers go it's not that most of the time it's not detected even when you're slashing it, it's that you have to slash it in a very specific position in order for it to count, so you'd be moving around a bit trying to get that PERFECT position so you can get your hearts, arrows, whatever.
