So basically you're just reinforcing my point here. It is not a case of adjusting, laggers simply cannot be hit unless they are running towards you. You do not need to hit the opposition ahead of the direction they're moving in if you're the one lagging however, so it is putting people at a huge disadvantage and encouraging the use of lag. Excellent, because we didn't have this problem enough already.
Not exactly,
if you were to actually guess and time the hit right against a severe lagger they'd have little to no chance of being able to adjust and hit back.
No, but are you trying to suggest that the bulk of the players that logged onto the server daily, the regulars, are not gone? I know what the deal is with the majority of the US guild (which was keeping the competative streak in events up by the way) and I have spoken to a lot of people who I don't actually usually speak to on top of that. The consensus is that your hit detection is shit, and the sooner you actually realise it the better. Ibonic's hit detection increased the playercount pretty fast and that was serverside, so what are you talking about? It has been published all over these forums that the events aren't working or being received well but hell, they're hosting the events to save the server so IT MUST BE OKAY.
When Ibonic had his HD as an option at his spar level,
most people had it turned off, the arena may have sucked the majority of the playercount into one level, but the HD did not cause a noticable increase in playercount.
Interestingly though his HD wasn't a whole lot different to mine, it was actually Clientside...
unless he stored the option as clientr.hd_clientside to decieve.
What about Silvercrank? He was a big PKer in 2006. Rob, Eillen, Jet, Clel Bubbles, man there was tons. Even with people like Trip trying to get #1 spar rank not so long ago, we had an active community in sparring and pking and this lasted for years with a serverside hit detection. Players got used to it and although it needed tweaking it was fair. Even recently we seen Ares, Squirt and other UN sparrers visiting and taking part in sparring with serverside detection. You're acting as though it was some huge killer, but really it was just something we all got used to. The newer players, which most of the current community are, had nothing to say about it because it was what they were used to.
Silvercrank is the only person mentioned that more or less played Graal entirely for the sake of pking, and he left in 2006,
the other participated for other reasons aswell.
Trip wasn't around until early/mid 2007.
Ares and Highlander still come on the server and spar/pk + join events, in the case of Squirt he is now occupied as GP Chief on Era, likewise to how Deophite is occuped as Manager, does it mean they hate the new HD?, no, infact those were 3 of the people i spent time testing it with and were satisfied, all 3 had a complaint to make about the serverside HD though.
Why the hell does it matter what a group of old players think? What are they going to bring to a game like bowling that is different to what the current playerbase could suggest? They were never going to return for it and they never did, but that was your only form of advertising huh? You are trying to target the older players, it's as though you're almost doing it to be recognized, and again this only reinforces what I posted. You asked people who didn't care for input and ignorined what the actually community gave as input once it was released so yeah, you are taking the players for granted after all.
Attempting to discuss ideas is not the same as advertising, or seeking to be recognized, the fact is the general playercount knew it was a matter of time before Bowling would be released, and i thought it would be best for the sake of competition that players were kept in the dark and not given any type of head start with it, i'll admit that Bowling has been a failure thus far, but competition is the main ingredient it lacks, it could yet be revitalised.
Incorrect. Use the default system and create an NPC that sets the players ani to sword and hit another player with it. It will do damage. It is the same with NPCs. An NPC with the sword ani will do damage if they have a swordpower set, and this includes the Graal editor which does not have a Gserver.
There was a change made at the time player display was switched from player sprites to ganis.
The normal ani and sprite checking still occurs clientside as normal but on top of that every time you slash it does something on the lines of hitobjects, it's for this reason that such hacks as far swing have existed within trainers in the past, otherwise manipulating your own client wouldn't be capable of effecting how other players clients recieve a hit.
You made a statement which tried to suggest that your hit detection was better than the default hit detection, which is also false and a pretty stupid statement to make. I do not see how your hit detection is any more safe from 'cheating' than the default without including serverside checks.
It's possible that your client could think you should be recieving hits but that there is always some condition falsely preventing it,
and so if it were to happen so many times in quick succession it could carry out security measures.
converting the 3 current dungeons to work with the default hit detection wouldn't have been worth making the rest of the original Graal the Adventure vastly easier to convert worth it?
There'd be alot more work required than 3 dungeons,
any object that can recieve or do damage, anything that can manipulate the players speed, movement, or freeze time, arenas, level types, GC Events, would be much better off just starting from scratch.
why do u people waste ur time talking about hd. the new one is there to stay.
The HD could yet be changed to allow hits over longer tile distances between drawn victim and attacker position,
or to carry out hit checks over a slightly longer amount of time,
maybe to avoid checking the angles between players and slashes etc, the current settings are fairly strict, but i'm not convinced it's a problem for the time being.
