The Hit Detection.
No one is happy with it other than the person that made it. I spoke with who made it a few months ago and apparently he said people were happy with it, um? excuse me? who is happy with the new HD?
It's ruined most events including the most enjoyable (CTF), although i'm not blaming it for the decline in playercount, I am angry however, at how the Development team spent months and months on it, to create... garbage. It's just that, no one is happy with it and it needs to be changed back.
Anyway just to illustrate my point, please vote.

Hitting someone with the new HD seems to be more hit and miss (pardon the pun) than it used to be. You'll hit someone one time, and attempt to hit them in the same exact way another but end up missing. I'm sure once we all figure out how to adapt it'll be fine, but right now it can be very frustrating.

In one event, sid was so damn laggy that he won the event, everyone slashed him over and over and he wouldn't die.

People are only approving of this new one because it is different. Not because it is better, just because it's changed. The previous HD was able to be tolerated, yea we got the odd hit from several tiles away, but it wasn't that big of a deal. This one has so many problems on so many levels, no one even PKs or Spars anymore because they can't.
And Death, it doesn't take a chef to judge food.

IF YOU ****TARDS WANT A BETTER ****ING HD THEN YOU GO CREATE ONE THEN MOTHER****S ITS NOT AS SIMPLE AS SNAPPING YOUR FINGERS DAMNIT. Sorry I have a right to defend others. I'm pretty sure that the opening post suggests that the hit detection that we had should be brought back. Y'know what he means by this right? The one that we had when people actually logged on. You don't go from a hit detection that worked and could have been fixed up a bit better to one that ruins the gameplay that was keeping the server on its feet. Kill and the rest of the people who dislike the current hit detection (myself included) are not a part of the development team and are in fact players or ex-players in most cases. Players are not supposed to be the ones generating content for the server. Players are not supposed to pick up the pieces when stupid choices are made. The current hit detection is in response to players asking for a clientside hit detection, but this is nothing like what the players actually want, which is default hit detection. You are never going to get a scripted hit detection that feels exactly the same as the hard-coded default hit detection, so other ways of dealing with the issue need to be looked at. Most players on the server were used to the balance of serverside hit detection and the events and other concepts were built around this; take that away and you get what we currently have, a loss of decent gameplay and a complete loss of interest. In order to appeal to a wider audience with a serverside hit detection, such as those appealing for a "better" hit detection, you take the initiative like Ibonic did and tweak the system so it feels better. Players are customers, and they're ultimately what the server is trying to gain. You can't expect them to do it better themselves, that's not what they're here for, where as the development team signed up for it.

The people are fickle. They beg, cry, and plea for a new HD; and now they bitch and moan about it. The Dev team just can't win. I don't pretend to understand the "client side" aspect of this stuff since it's far beyond my dino powers. But I do know that hitting laggers was tough with the old HD; but hitting laggers now is almost impossible. Hell even non laggers seem to avoid bullseye hits part of the time.
Unless someone (thor) explains exactly what to do with this new HD and how to fight certain people, no one is going to like it and thus no one will want to use it.

The people are fickle. They beg, cry, and plea for a new HD; and now they bitch and moan about it. It's the same with nearly every single poll we've had up in the poll house and this is a prime example as to why they should be reserved for community-related topics. From MoD fort being ruined to the GC items being placed into folders for no reason; everything that was submitted as a poll resulted in support, because people just yearn for new content and seemingly don't care how sh itty it actually is going to turn out until it's released. The Dev team just can't win. Gladius, if the team was compitent and knew what the server needed or what the players actually wanted then the team would be winning. Unless someone (thor) explains exactly what to do with this new HD and how to fight certain people, no one is going to like it and thus no one will want to use it. Can't wait for this.

I believe the majority of people fail to grasp the impact of the thing they're voting for, least of all how it actually works. Mmmm...sounds a bit like politics.

Wow Clel, yesterday you said that the HD sucked and ruined the CTF game, now you say this? lol.., There's a bit of quirks but I understand each HD will have quirks. The last HD was pretty bad too and I wouldn't have cared if I had 50ms.

At least the last HD would record a higher % of hits, at least judging from that ctf game. Sometimes the sword would be really close and it was iffy whether a hit should have been registered or not...but now its pretty sickening to watch bullseye hits not count. Maybe I'm just overreacting from that ctf game but I noticed similar in my spar against laura. Couldn't hit her despite bullseye hits and she hit me from miles a few times.

Also, I found thor's partial explanation of the HD: Gladius' stance is the correct one in my opinion, sparring is now even more largely based on adjusting to your opponent, i find that i struggle at the beggining of a spar but once i've got my first perfectly timed hit i can repeat it and take control. With it being a Clientside HD you need to take into account the lag of both yourself and your opponent, and remember that whatever you do will not be a hit unless your slash is close enough to them on their client. It can't be abused by UDP either, as the mechanism works for both TCP and UDP, but if you both have a very reliable UDP connection, it can be a very smooth spar, i was PKing with Death Kazama for hours with both of us having it enabled and even though he's in US and usually lags heavily it was a decent PK. After some testing i realised the Default HD (used on other servers) isn't even 100% Clientside, it's still very much possible to be hit over long distances, i think the server sends you hit data and then your client determines if you are positioned close enough to the hit, regardless of where you see the player making the hit.
