Made up but realistic formula for distance to both sparring locations:
Supernicks = 30x
Exo's = 70 + X
Now obviously the distance to exos (the first time) is greater than that of the distance to supernicks (from the benches in lvl 14). However, once you get the warp ring you can instantly warp there, making walking at all nullified. Thus it can be reasoned that after 2 or 3 visits to exos, it actually takes longer to get to supernicks tile-distance wise than it does to exos. Earlier today theDae and some noob were pking when thedae paused and said "spar at exos?" The noob replied "show me" and thus off they went. Now this is where you chime in and go "yeah if there was a spar location in city at a convenient location like i said that wouldn't happen!" Well this is where I chime in with a pre-emptive strike. Had thedae said "spar at supernicks?", assuming the noob was new to the server, he would have still replied with "show me". So let's review what we've learned today: mathmatically glad is correct; example wise glad is correct. If someone is new to a server, whether the spar arena is in the main city or a short distance outside of it, they are not going to know where it is until they find it/are shown where it is. If you still want to try and call me out for being correct, go ahead. Just be sure and tell me the next time walking to supernicks from lvl 14 is faster than warping to exos.
You're missing the point. If you're going somewhere just to talk so someone, you might as well not be there because you can talk with them anywhere (not to mention via chat). If you're going to a server to seriously play there, you might as well do the quests early and get them out of the way. Take our experiences on era, for example. Without doing the quests, we were at a disadvantage to anyone on the server who had done them. When we did them, we were on equal footing. Now obviously era doesn't force people to do the quests, but the people that log on to just talk aren't really helping the server. I'm not "defending" the fact that you have to go through the quests. All I'm saying is that a player who wants to play on the server will do the quests anyway; a player that is there just to chat wouldn't do the quests anyways and thus has no real reason to be on the server.
Oh please. CTF isn't the only event that is hosted. It's easily the most hosted event, easily the best event, and easily the most overhosted event. We all know this. I'm not "defending" hosting CTF constantly; hell I'm not sure where you get these accusations from. I'm just saying the people want CTF the most because they like it the most. Many times a GC tries to host an "underhosted" event and gets an underwhelming amount of volunteers. You can blame this on "ctf overdose" if you want, but do not discount the fact that the playercount is horrible right now. As a GC, the odds of getting a good amount of players for an event probably quadruples with a playercount of 20+ rather than the 12 or so we get nowadays (if that). Going back a year ago (and less) a GC could host just about anything and get 6-12 people with the average playercount of 20-25. Was ctf overhosted in the last year? Yup. Has the playecount decreased over the last year? Yup. I believe that CTF was being hosted so much in a desperate attempt to keep people on classic since they loved it so much. Obviously this couldn't and didn't work forever. I won't point fingers since we all did it to varying extents. People simply got used to ctf 24/7 and thus stopped requesting other events. It's not that they started hating all other events; they simply wanted to continue the norm since it was agreeable to them. They'll still join other events; they just won't always vote for them. As a GC staff, we should all agree to try host ctf when it is appropriate, and host other events when it is not. "Appropriate" implies having 8-10 reliable people online and having 1-2 replacements online when you start. Check the end of the next paragraph to see a sort of continuation of this discussion.
Foolish bear. I'm not comparing Classic and the NBA directly. There is simply no comparison. I'm mearly comparing the fan's choice to watch a top-tier match over a low-tier match to a classic player's choice to vote for ctf over druken stupor. Now obviously each team has a fan base that will watch it's games whenever they get the chance. I'm talking about when your team isn't playing. I'll (well used to anyways back at home, it's harder now) go eat something around 7 or 9 or something and turn to an TNT to watch a basketball game if it's on. However, if it's a pooty matchup such as Thunder vs Kings, I'll probably end up changing the channel. Now if it's Cavs vs Magic or something, I'll watch the game for as long as I'm eating. The point is, the same thing on classic happens to people watching NBA games. Good matchups (ctf) will get more viewers (votes) than bad matchups (drunken stupor). Apparently you're claiming that no one will even join druken stupor anymore since they're all drunk on CTF. This is far from the truth. Now obviously a lot of people are drunk on CTF, but that doesn't mean they don't like to drink Fortbuilder or sumo occasionally. A lot of people will join the vast majority of events a GC hosts, though some will not. The number is decreasing, but tis not like absolutely no one joins anything not named CTF. To claim otherwise might imply you're trying to host with low/bad playercounts.
